15 years HRSC on the Mars Express mission

The Mars-Express spacecraft reached a Mars orbit in December 2003. Since that time, the HRSC (High Resolution Stereo Camera) scans the Mars surface. In addition to the stereo channels, there are several color channels and an infrared channel available.

The figure shows a multichip module, Dipl.Ing. Martin Langfeld has developed for camera control. For maximum reliability, each sensor was equipped with its own control chip. At the same time, the camera has a sophisticated power supply system that can shut down parts of the system in the event of a failure. The chip can also drive 4 signal processing chains that can multiplex, amplify and convert analog signals from the sensors into digital data.
